When The Voices In Your Head Escape (AKA My First #RomanceClass Experience)

Personal The Writing Community October 3, 2015February 10, 2017 by tarafrejas

I forgot when exactly it was that Mina tagged me in a #romanceclass discussion thread on Facebook, saying because of certain things she knows about me, she’s inviting me to tag along to this little gathering. Of course I would have loved to join them, but I was new to the group and didn’t know the …

I was fortunate enough to have been able to secure a ticket to Van Gogh Alive (weekend tix got sold out really fast, so we had to make do with a weekday slot), and I loved the experience. I am not in any way an art critic, nor do I claim to know every piece of art Van Gogh has created, but I do know how to appreciate beauty when I see it...and man, being in a room, flooded by visions of the man's genius was something to behold. I do wish we had more time to sit around and bask in the beauty of his color palettes and brush strokes, though, because I thought an hour and a half seemed sufficient, but I was sorely mistaken. I wanted to stay in that room and watch Van Gogh's paintings swirl around me for hours. 😍❤

I wish we had this kind of immersive experience with our own artists, too, someday. Not sure what art purists would say, but this was such a great idea, to let people experience art as intimately as this.

Thank you, Jazz for the company yesterday, and for taking this photo! ❤ More museum trips soon, hopefully! #VanGoghAlivePH
Instagram post 2189310762816530533_4059256368 We missed you, Ate Che! ❤ First CBS Staycay with Ate Che after she moved to NZ almost five years ago! There was chismis, Kdrama, food, and gifts, of course. 🎄 See you again soon, ladies, please?! (Not in photo si Grace kasi late dumating hahaha!)

Instagram post 2182737370986381542_4059256368 Part 2 of my #AklatanBookFair2019 haul: Presents for a good friend's nieces! They now live in New Zealand and the kids have basically grown up there, so I thought maybe they would like some reading materials from their Motherland. Isang Harding Papel (Augie Rivera, Rommel Joson), Ang Ambisyosong Istetoskop (Luis P. Gatmaitan, MD, Beth Parrocha-Doctolero), Nasaan Si Muningning? (Michael M. Coroza, Tokwa S. Peñaflorida), and The Little Girl in a Box (Felinda V. Bagas, Aldy C.Aguirre) are purchases from Adarna House, and Choco Chip Hips by Agay Llanera is a #romanceclass title I bought from Visprint. ❤
Instagram post 2182121690184485766_4059256368 Part 1 of my #AklatanBookFair2019 haul: Hari ng Komyut by Lizette Daluz (2017, Anino Komiks) is a collection of comic strips that narrate the Pinoy commuter's various experiences while on the road. I'm only a few pages in but I find the character very relatable, especially since I took public transportation a lot too when I was still studying/working at offices. Bought this at Adarna House for P80. 😊 ANYARE? (Kawangis Komiks, 2019) is a Philippine history card game which has two game plays (Habi and Pili). Both times you will be forced to rack your rusty knowledge of our country's history, which gets a bit embarrassing sometimes 😂 but hey, I do wanna remember my history, that's why I bought the game! Also the art is exquisite. The game includes 101 cards with amazing artwork by 37 Filipino artists from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Got this one for P800. Can't wait to play it with friends and family! 🤗❤
Instagram post 2181419671354305459_4059256368 Guess who's buying this for his lady love. ❤🥰 Spotted at The Craft Central, Megamall. #baybayin
Instagram post 2180605647838296518_4059256368 Found these lovelies by @vintaraph at Craft Central in Megamall, and now I am fantasizing over music box versions of my favorite OPM songs. ❤ If a music box appears in one of my novels, alam nyo na. 😁

Instagram post 2178890364635539232_4059256368 So, sometime last week, I finished the first draft of my latest book. And because my stress (over the manuscript, work, and my internet provider) had piled up over the past several weeks, I decided to have three slices of cake to celebrate. (Too bad we devoured the third one without taking a photo. 😂)

#ProjectDatu is now in its self-editing stage...after which I send it to my beta reader and editor and wait for them to pass judgment. 😓 Fingers crossed you'll meet Pio Alvez's kuya with a temper in early 2020. #romanceclass

Instagram post 2176040667382197491_4059256368 Hi friends! I will be taking on the role of tindera at the #romanceclass booth at #AklatanBookFair2019 next week, November 20-21, at Megatrade Hall 3, SM Megamall. It's an all-Filipino book fair, and I'm very excited to have a look around as well to see what our talented writers have in store. I think you guys should, too! Pop in if you're in the area, and I hope to see you there. 😊
