Bingo, anyone?

In 2015, author Edgar Calabia Samar (Janus Silang, Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog) started an social media campaign called #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy as part of the country’s celebration of Buwan ng Wika (National Language Month). The campaign encouraged more Filipino readers to share to the world the Filipino-authored works they have enjoyed or are currently enjoying. It resulted in an influx of tweets, bookstagrams, and other posts in social media platforms featuring a lot of titles, some of them yet to be discovered by the masses.

For this year, #romanceclass is joining the campaign with a #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy Bingo, which gives everyone who wishes to join a little guide to the kinds of work they should be checking out. The prize? Why, a newfound appreciation for Filipino-authored/produced work you might not have encountered before, of course!

Check out our bingo board below:

This #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy bingo includes not just books but comics, songs, stage productions (musicals/plays), films, and television shows.

Looks interesting! How do I join this?

  1. Take a look at the board and set a goal for yourself. What pattern are you trying to form? Are you extra enough to aim for blackout bingo? Or is a line enough? The combinations are endless.
  2. Once you’ve decided on a pattern, try to look for a book, comic, song, stage production, movie, or TV show that suits the category in the square/s. Read, listen to, or watch whatever you’ve found, and share your thoughts about it on your social media account. Why did you choose it? Did you like it and why? Would you recommend it to anyone? Who else do you think would appreciate read/listen to/watch it? (These are just guide questions. You can make up your own captions.)

Bonus points for creativity, by the way. We love aesthetics. <3

  3. Don’t forget to include the category name in your posts (i.e. “It happened a long time ago) and tag them with the official hashtags: #romanceclassBAPBingo and #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy
  4. You earn bragging rights once you’ve completed your desired pattern. If you’ve aimed small the first time (and you still have time left before August ends), feel free to form another pattern…just for fun!

That’s it! Easy, right?

Don’t know where to start? Check out the #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy hashtag for recommendations from previous years. #romanceclass authors are also going to be offering recs for certain categories, so check them out and give them a chance! <3

See you all in August!
