#Scandalized: 소리질러 (Make Some Noise) Week
Are you ready to get Scandalized?
In April of last year, I joined my very first (non-academic) writing workshop under Mina V. Esguerra’s guidance, #SparkNA. The goal was to finish a contemporary New Adult manuscript of no less than 20,000 words in a span of 2 months. It was a tall order, but worth a shot.
One year later, here I am, making preparations to release the fruit of that workshop. But while final touches are being done to the manuscript, cover, and everything in between–here’s a little something I made for East Genesis Project, the Korean pop-rock band featured in my book, Scandalized.

{ Short & Tweet } Episode Four
I haven’t done this in a while, but let me do something new just because. I’m going to introduce two Twitter accounts today, @eastgenproject and @KaipuhanKafe, both “managed” by fictional characters from stories I wrote.
In April, I joined a writing workshop called #SparkNA, which brought forth to the world (in a manner of speaking) a Korean pop-rock band called East Genesis Project aka EG Project. In the process of creating these characters, I’ve always had the urge to write side stories and interviews involving them and putting those together in some pseudo-band website. Of course, I never really got around to doing that yet, but I did start this:
A #SparkNA Update: We’re on Wattpad!
So . . . remember that online writing workshop I took from April to June of this year? Yep, the one for which I wrote a (gasp!) novel about a KPop band and their road manager? Nope, no publishing deals have been handed out yet, but we’re given bite-sized #SparkNA treats–AKA short, kilig, snippets from everyone else’s works–on Wattpad!
There are currently eight different scenes from eight different stories (mine included) up right now, each of them promising, with varying degrees of kilig . . . because hey, when you’re writing romance, that’s what we’re looking for, right? The compilation is updated every few days so you won’t have to tear your hair out waiting for the next one. Simply click on the cover to your right and read to your heart’s content.
My #SparkNA novel is entitled Scandalized, and if you ever find yourself interested in taking a sneak peek at it, I have the first four chapters up on my Wattpad account too.

When Amethyst Entertainment decides it is not willing to sacrifice EG Project’s marketability for a mere roadie, Fi is clueless on how to proceed. I am a writer who dislikes writing endings.
Which is kind of weird, right? As a writer, I should feel happy about getting to the end of my story. It’s an achievement, something to be celebrated, even in the simplest of ways. And yet, during the past few years I’ve realized a trend when I’m about to close a work of fiction: I stall.
Two or three chapters away from my ending, I stop looking at my manuscript altogether. I read or reread books, think of new stories to write, watch dramas or films . . . I do anything to keep myself from writing those last few chapters, and all because I’ve gotten attached to my characters and don’t want to let them go yet.
It’s probably not a good thing, what I do, but hey . . . I’m pretty sure we all have our own quirks. I almost did the same routine with my #SparkNA novella, but I had a deadline to beat this time, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why I joined this class in the first place: to learn to discipline myself as a writer.
