For a few weeks now, I have been working on this special project with a local artist named rwiizo, whom I met at Komiket Market! Market! in May. I was browsing through the many stalls at the event and was instantly taken by his art style. I asked him if he was open to handling cover commissions, and he said yes, so I followed him on his IG account and had a look at his body of work while I decided which book I wanted him to sprinkle his magic on.
And then I decided it should be Waiting in the Wings. Because why not?
(Because paboritong anak lol. WHO SAID THAT?!!?)
But Tara, didn’t you just release a new cover last year?
You mean this?
The 2024 edition cover has theatre actors MNor Madamesila and Gio Gahol on it, and, if you’ve read to the end of the book, you’d know that Mnor and Gio’s 2023 production Walang Aray was the reason this cover exists. I came out of that show very inspired, and I think it only took me several days before I asked Gio if MNor was willing to become a book cover model. She said yes, and that was it.
Anyway, I’m very much in love with this cover. I’m not replacing it, if that’s what you’re thinking.
Will the special illustrated edition cover be available as an ebook?
Yes, but if you already have edition with the 2024 photo cover, you can get the special edition ebook for free. More details on that soon.
Is there new content in the special edition?
No. The special edition will contain the 2024 version of the book. No new content.
Where can we buy a copy of the special edition?
I will be opening a pre-order page on August 8. The target release of the paperback edition is the week of the 2025 Manila International Book Fair, but this may still change depending on our printer’s work timeline. Eventually, I plan to stock copies at Komiket, Magdamag Market Cafe, Istorya Studios, Mt. Cloud Bookshop, and more.
